MEDINA — “Stars of Medina County” will take place April 1 at 7 p.m. on the main stage of the Medina Performing Arts Center, 777. E. Union St. The event, which will raise funds for this year’s summer musical, will include a preconcert program in the lobby at 6 p.m. Among the stars scheduled to perform are: Lillian Spetrino, Jake Ulmer, Melissa Kronenberger, Oasis Dance Troupe (belly dancing), Limited Edition Barbershop Quartet, Elizabeth Hargrove, James and Heather Kovach, and Dan Hunter. This year’s summer musical will be “The King and I.” Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students and senior citizens. Tickets may be reserved by calling (330) 636-3400. All seats are general admission.
DOWNTOWN AKRON — The Summit Choral Society’s Mozart Celebration Concert will take place April 1 at 8 p.m. at E.J. Thomas Performing Arts Hall. The concert will feature a full orchestra and guest soloists in a performance that will feature three of Mozart’s most well-known works: “Eine Kleine Nachtmusik,” “Solemn Vespers” and “Requiem.” This concert, under the direction of Frank Jacobs, founding artistic director of the Summit Choral Society, will celebrate the 250th anniversary of Mozart’s birth. It is the Summit Choral Society’s final concert of the season. Tickets are $12, $16 and $20, with discounts available for senior citizens, students and groups of 20 or more. CLEVELAND — The Interlochen Arts Academy Orchestra will perform April 7 at 8 p.m. in Kulas Hall at the Cleveland Institute of Music (CIM), 11021 East Blvd. According to CIM officials, the Interlochen Arts Academy Orchestra is one of the premier high school orchestras in the world. The orchestra will be joined on the tour by Interlochen alumna Ida Kavafian, an internationally known violin soloist. Kavafian will perform Michael Daugherty’s “Fire and Blood Concerto for Violin and Orchestra.” The concert is free and open to the public and will include opportunities to learn more about Interlochen’s programs. DOWNTOWN AKRON — Drummer Robert Green-idge, of Jimmy Buffett’s Coral Reefer Band, will join The University of Akron Steel Drum Band in concert April 8 at 8 p.m. at E.J. Thomas Performing Arts Hall, 198 Hill St. Featuring classical to jazz to Caribbean music, the concert continues the band’s popular tradition of inviting Trinidadian musicians to join its members on stage. Greenidge is the former musical director of Trinidad’s famed Desperadoes band and has performed with John Lennon; Taj Mahal; Ringo Starr; Earth, Wind and Fire; and Bill Withers. DOWNTOWN AKRON — Pianosaur!, multiple pianos played by 22 pianists, will fill the stage of Guzzetta Recital Hall, 157 University Ave., at The University of Akron (UA) April 9 at 3 p.m. The concert for all ages will feature massed pianists from the campus and community, including Philip Thomson, Mayumi Kikuchi, Laura Silverman, Christina Tan, Jin Yu, Paul Transue and Nancy Bachus. Galen Karriker, director of the UA Marching Band, will conduct. Tickets will be available at the door beginning at 2:30 p.m. at a cost of $10 for general admission; $8 for senior citizens, UA faculty, staff, alumni, and parents of current UA students; $3 for non-UA students; and free for UA students.
