Revere students win billboard contest
RICHFIELD — Senior Sean Goodman
and junior Matt White, of Revere High School, won first
place in the Summit/Akron Solid Waste Management Authority’s
(SASWMA) 2006 High School Billboard Design Contest.
This year’s theme was “Reduce the Use of
Our Natural Resources Today for the Sake of the Next
Seven Generations.”

Designs
were judged based on the students’ ability to
link this year’s theme with the concept of reduce,
reuse, recycle and rethink.
The team’s design, pictured above, will be displayed on a billboard located on Brecksville Road near state Route 176 in Richfield in April. Revere’s Advanced Digital Design teacher is Paulette Colantone.
The second-place winner was Zachary Daugherty, of Mogadore High School, and the third-place winners were Rachel Hagenbaugh and Janis Haynes, of Portage Lakes Career Center in Green. Out of 275 entries from eight high schools, 16 finalists also received honorable mention.
“The
design contest was a huge success this year; we are
planning on continuing it next year,” said Walker.
“The visual arts are a great media through which
students can express their concerns about our environment.
And it is a great way to spread our recycling and environmental
message.”
