DOWNTOWN AKRON — The Vernon L. Odom Fund, an affiliate of the Akron Community Foundation, is seeking grant proposals from Summit County nonprofit organizations. The fund honors the late Vernon L. Odom Sr., the respected longtime leader of the Akron Urban League. Grants from the fund support programs that promote racial harmony or improve the quality of life within Greater Akron’s minority communities. AKRON — The Women’s Leadership Giving Initiative of United Way of Summit County (UWSC) is offering $40,000 in grants to be divided among one or more applicants. Grant applications will be accepted from 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations serving women and children in Summit County. A volunteer group serving as the Women’s Leadership Giving Initiative Review Committee will review all proposals. Considered applications can include new and/or expanded programs. New programs are defined as services not previously furnished by the submitting agency. Expanded programs are currently furnished with plans for expansion into a new geographic area or provision to an additional or replacement population. Proposals that involve collaborative partnering are strongly recommended. Preliminary applications must be received at the UWSC offices, 90 N. Prospect St., by May 1 at 4 p.m. Applicants will be notified of their status by June 27.
