PENINSULA — The National
Park Service will host a Volunteer
Open House
April 6 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Happy Days Visitor Center
in Cuyahoga Valley National Park. The drop-in event
is open to the general public and will provide
information and descriptions of
the volunteer job opportunities available in the park.
National park volunteers and staff will be available
to answer questions. Volunteer opportunities include
giving interpretive talks about history and nature,
helping with special events, assisting with trail work
and working as a Visitor Center
volunteer. Training will be provided. For details, call

Happy Days Visitor Center is located at 500 W. Streetsboro
Road in Peninsula.
DOWNTOWN AKRON — Akron Police Department Capt. Sylvia Trundle and Richfield Lt. Joseph Davis graduated from the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Va., March 17. The 10-week 224th session commenced Jan. 8. Trundle has served with the Akron Police Department since 1989 and is currently a commander in the patrol subdivision.
WEST AKRON — Fannie Brown, executive director of Coming Together Akron (CTA), was recognized with a Certificate of Accomplishment by Akron City Council at a special program March 1 at the Lawton Street Community Center to celebrate Black History Month and Women’s History Month. Akron City Councilwoman Reneé Greene (D-Ward 4) chaired the program. Brown was acknowledged for her contributions to the city through CTA, a community-based organization promoting racial harmony and cultural diversity. She assumed her current duties as executive director of CTA in 1997. Brown is a graduate of Malone College and received a master’s degree and a doctorate in education from The University of Akron.
