• DOWNTOWN AKRON — The Akron Civic Theatre’s fourth annual An Evening With the Stars fund-raiser will celebrate all things Hollywood with the theme “Hooray for Hollywood.” The event will take place April 22 at the Akron Civic Theatre. The evening will start off at 6:30 p.m. with a “red carpet” entrance, cocktail party and silent auction, progressing to food stations prepared by Akron area chefs at 8 p.m. and dancing at 9:30 p.m. to Special Request. Guests are encouraged to dress like their favorite stars or characters from the movies or television. Costume awards will be given. Tickets are $75 per person. All proceeds will benefit the Akron Civic Theatre, a 501(c)(3) organization. For details, call (330) 535-3179.
• BATH — “Soon to be Raining Cats and Dogs” is the theme of the April 22 fund-raiser of Haven for Pets, an all-volunteer, nonprofit animal rescue organization that opened its doors last August. The event will take place in the Summit Room at the Akron General Health & Wellness Center — West, 4125 Medina Road, and will feature a sit-down dinner, harp music and auction items donated by area businesses. Dick Goddard, FOX 8 News meteorologist, also is scheduled to be an honored guest. Proceeds from the event will be used to continue Haven for Pets’ dog and cat rescue work and to pay medical and foster care costs for the animals.
