WEST AKRON — First Baptist Church, 1670 Shatto Ave., will present guest speaker the Rev. Vincent Harris, chaplain at Thistledown race track, April 30 at the 10:30 a.m. service. Harris is an American Baptist home missionary who ministers to people who work on “the back side” of the track. A coffee hour and lunch will follow the service. WEST AKRON — The hiking group at Fairlawn-West United Church of Christ will hike through the O’Neil Woods Metro Park May 2. Hikers should meet in the church parking lot at 9 a.m. The group hikes on Tuesdays and Sundays. Also, the Canoe Group will go on its sixth annual trip on the Buffalo River National Scenic Riverway in Northwest Arkansas the week of June 26. Fairlawn-West Church is located at 2095 W. SOUTH AKRON — “A Time for Renewal” is the theme of the upcoming program year of the Summit Regional Council of National Council of Catholic Women. The Annual Installation Mass and Spring Luncheon will take place May 10. Mass will be celebrated at St. Paul Church, 1580 Brown St., with Bishop Martin Amos presiding at liturgy and as homilist. The Summit Regional Council choir, under the direction of Marlene Dunford, will perform at 9:45 a.m. The luncheon will follow at 11:30 a.m. at Guy’s Party Centre, 500 E. Waterloo Road. The executive board of officers will be installed. The speaker will be Sr. Mary Noel, O.P., whose topic will be “Women, Friends of Jesus: Then and Now.” The cost of the luncheon is $15.
