AKRON — Jan von Spiegel,
a math teacher at Archbishop
Hoban High School, was presented with a plaque naming
her the 2006 Southern District Secondary Mathematics
Teacher of the Year. The Greater Cleveland Council of
Teachers of Mathematics awarded her the honor during
a banquet at Cleveland State University May 16. Von
Spiegel co-chaired the State Teachers of Mathematics
Conference in Akron in 1999 and 2004 and was president
of the Greater Akron Mathematics Educators Society from
1996 to 2003. She previously has been named Mathematics
Teacher of the Year for the Northeast region of the
state. Von Spiegel has taught at Hoban since 1987.
DOWNTOWN AKRON — Tim Castrigano will take over the recently vacated position of development director and become the first chief financial officer at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School (STVM). Castrigano, a certified public accountant and president of Castrigano & Co. since 1997, has worked as a consultant for several Fortune 500 clients in the retail industry, according to STVM officials. For more than 20 years he has worked in the corporate world designing, implementing and training retail accounting planning and budgeting tools for clients. Castrigano is a graduate of Gilmour Academy and Cleveland State University.
