Medina County Community Fund distributes grants
MEDINA — The Medina County Community Fund (MCCF), a permanent public philanthropic endowment fund of the Akron Community Foundation, has awarded grants totaling $28,015 to seven Medina County qualified nonprofit organizations. Since its inception in 1994, the MCCF has grown its assets to more than $1 million and has distributed $176,710 in grants to nonprofit organizations in the county. Grants awarded in 2006 include:
Children’s Hospital Medical Center of Akron, to continue the implementation of Reach Out and Read at two Physician Associates locations, $4,000;
Hands Across Medina County Foundation, for the Medina County Seniors’ Farm Market Nutrition Program, $4,000;
Medina County Oral Health Coalition Inc., to purchase inhalation anesthesia equipment and supplies, $6,090; Medina Creative Housing Inc., for a life-skills training site for youths with disabilities, $5,000;
Our Lady of Grace Church, for support of the food bank, $2,000;
PTA Ohio Congress, toward the purchase of handicap-accessible playground equipment, $4,000; and
St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Sharon Center, for transitional housing for the homeless, $2,925.
The mission of the MCCF is the enhancement of the quality of life for Medina County residents. The income from this fund is distributed annually to qualified Medina County nonprofit organizations that provide cultural, educational, health and community services. For details, call (800) 476-4993.
