WITAN awards grants to area nonprofit groups
GREATER AKRON — Women in Touch With Akron’s Needs (WITAN) recently awarded grants to the following nonprofit organizations:
American Heart Association, $8,000 for five automatic external defibrillators;
The Arc of Summit and Portage Counties, $5,000 for the People Together outreach program;
Battered Women’s Shelter, $7,800 for shelter expenses;
CASA of Summit County, $7,500 to meet essential needs of children in custody/ care;
Community Hall Foundation — Akron Civic Theatre, $3,000 for the Akron Reading Festival, which will take place Sept. 16 at Lock 3 Live! Park; National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Ohio Buckeye Chapter, $2,500 for respite care for caregivers;
Victory Gallop, $6,700 for sponsorship of the Petie the Pony Project; and
Stewart’s Caring Place, $5,000 toward a five-year, $75,000 pledge to support families affected by cancer.
