By Maggie DeMellier
WEST AKRON — Police were called to Akron General Medical Center July 16 around 3 a.m. when two women were admitted for the treatment of gunshot wounds. Minutes later, officers were told another gunshot victim was at Akron City Hospital.
All three victims reported they had been injured by gunfire, which broke out at a Holland Oil station at the corner of South Hawkins Avenue and Diagonal Road.
According to the victims, a fight
started at the gas station,
and shots were fired. One victim, Treva Griffen, 28,
was standing at the gas station window making a purchase
when the gunfire began.
People began scrambling for safety,
and Griffin was hit when she ran toward a car. The other
women, 20-year-old Shauntae Hill and 19-year-old Kevelyn
Evans, were standing in the Wooster-Hawkins Plaza parking
lot when they were shot.
Evans was in serious condition
when she was admitted to the hospital. None of the women’s
injuries appeared to be life-threatening, police said.
Victims said they were unsure
who did the shooting or why.
Akron Police Lt. Rick Edwards
said no additional information was available, but police
were investigating and they would appreciate any information
about the suspects or the incident.
