Library presents good, clean fun

NEW FRANKLIN — Bubbles were popping all over Portage Lakes Branch Library July 19 at a Summer Reading Program with the “Bubble Lady.”
Sue Durante, of Zap Entertainment in Parma, entertained about 185 children and parents at the hour-long show. Durante showed children how to use their imagination and make bubble blowers out of common household items, including rubber bands, cups with the bottom cut out, plastic leis and even their hands.
Shown
at right, Durante used a Hoberman Transforming Sphere
to make a mass of small bubbles, while below she demonstrated
how to make different sizes of bubbles by using homemade
wands and household items.
But large bubbles really wowed the crowd. Sam and Ella Hettich, 6 and 4, respectively, of New Franklin, are shown at top inside a giant bubble Durante made inside a swimming pool.
“Everybody loves bubbles and this appeals to all ages — from [children in] strollers to seniors,” said Durante.
Youth librarian Lisa Naim predicted that after the program, parents would run out of dish soap, which is used to make bubble solution.
