Educator clarifies thoughts on education in Copley-Fairlawn
district
To the editor:
This is an open letter to all Copley-Fairlawn teachers:
My wife and I are both educators by profession. Our experience is that most teachers have a desire to help students learn and grow. My family moved into the Copley district when I was in second grade, and I attended through graduation in 1980. Both of our children have had all of their schooling in the Copley system beginning in kindergarten at Herberich Primary. Over the years, we have not always agreed with every teaching method or strategy, but have had excellent communication and rapport with their teachers. This includes not only primary and middle school, but our high school experience as well.
Unfortunately, that message was not part of the newspaper article [in the Aug. 24, 2006, edition] and I apologize to the staff that felt I meant to say that I was critical of all teachers. My wife and I have been pleased with the commitment and conduct of 99 percent of the staff we’ve encountered. We know that you are positive role models and we applaud you! Keep up your hard work and dedication to the students in our community.
