At an Aug. 17 public hearing, the Sharon Township Zoning Commission approved several new amendments to the zoning resolution regarding the state Route 18 Corridor (C-2 district), especially concerning adequate parking spaces for new commercial buildings to comply with the Ohio Building Code, which now provides a parking space formula based on Ohio Revised Code occupancy requirements.
“These amendments do not apply to existing businesses, as they are grandfathered in,” said Sally Petersen, commission chairwoman.
The document has been forwarded to the Sharon Township Board of Trustees, who must, by law, schedule a public hearing within 30 days.
A workshop session followed the public hearing.
The next regular meeting of the Zoning Commission will take place Sept. 21 at 7:30 p.m.
At the Aug. 9 meeting of the Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA), the board continued until Aug. 23 the request of Simmons Brothers Construction Co. and Shamrock Industries to construct a 61,124-square-foot building for light assembly, warehousing and office space at Portside Corporate Park, located near Medina Municipal Airport on Medina Road. The applicant was asked to revise the plan, specifically in the areas of lighting, setback from the current road right-of-way, adequate parking and a layout for future parking needs, according to Chris Kurth, BZA chairwoman.
When the applicant appeared before the board with the additional information on Aug. 23, the request was approved. “All areas were addressed to the board’s satisfaction,” Kurth said.
In other action, the request of Dean Frantz, representing Shue’s Towing/Sharon Automotive, to allow storage of cars at 1204 Medina Road, was denied.
The BZA’s next regularly scheduled meetings will be Sept. 13 and 27 at 7:30 p.m. All meetings will take place at the township Administration Building on Sharon Circle.
