• DOWNTOWN AKRON — Cheer USA, a family-owned business providing children’s cheerleading classes throughout the United States, will host a class for children ages 5-14. Registration will be Sept. 16 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Registration and classes will take place at the YMCA, 1 Canal Square Plaza. The first class starts Sept. 23. Classes will help children improve their cheerleading skills, overall physical fitness and ability to work well with others, according to organizers. • SOUTH AKRON — The “Together Against Breast Cancer” softball tournament will take place Sept. 17 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Firestone Stadium, 1575 Firestone Pkwy. Tickets are $5 for adults, $2 for students with identification and $1 for children ages 12 and younger. Proceeds benefit Muffins for Mammograms. The schedule for the tournament includes: Ursuline College vs. Walsh University, 9 a.m.; The University of Akron (UA) vs. Gannon University (stadium field), Ursuline vs. Miami Valley (pony field), 10:30 a.m.; Walsh vs. Miami Valley, noon; Ashland University vs. Kent State University, 1:30 p.m.; Walsh vs. Gannon (stadium), Ursuline vs. Miami Valley (pony), 3 p.m.; UA vs. Kent, 4:30 p.m.; Ashland vs. Gannon, 6 p.m.; and Ashland vs. UA, 7:30 p.m. For details, call (330) 376-8188.
