WEST AKRON — Mark Heppner, vice president of museum services and curator at Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens, will present a program on “White Gold: Bringing Cultures Together Through Rubber” at a meeting of the Women’s Auxiliary Board of Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens. The meeting will take place Oct. 25 at 6:30 p.m. in the Carriage House, located on Stan Hywet’s grounds at 714 N. Portage Path. Doors will open at 6 p.m. for coffee and conversation. CLINTON — Metro Parks, Serving Summit County officials and volunteers will celebrate National Make A Difference Day Oct. 28 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. by cleaning up along the Towpath Trail, starting at the Clinton Trailhead, 2749 North St., and working south to the Stark County line. Lunch will be provided. Volunteers are encouraged to wear long pants and long sleeves and to bring work gloves, rubber boots, a change of dry shoes and socks and drinking water. BATH — The Revere Music Parents Association (RMPA) will host the Bands In The Round event Nov. 2 at Revere High School, 3420 Everett Road. A soup and sandwich supper will be served at 5 p.m. A silent auction will take place, and Revere bands will entertain at 7 p.m. Presale tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for children younger than 10. Tickets sold at the door will be $1 more. OHIO — Applications for the American Cancer Society, Ohio Division, 2007 Community Investment Grants (CIG) are now available. CIGs are awarded to Ohio agencies that support the mission of the American Cancer Society in the fight against cancer. The deadline for applications is Nov. 3. Applicants will be notified of funding by Jan. 5. The 2007 grant funds will be awarded to agencies and projects aimed at reducing the incidence of breast cancer in Ohio worksites. Programs submitted for funding should incorporate the following elements: breast cancer awareness and education; collaboration with health care providers and insurance companies; and worksite/employer-based stratgies. Funding should not be used for screening services, treatment costs, one-time events like health fairs or incentives, unless they are in conjunction with other programs or larger initiatives. Applicants should be tax-exempt organizations or organizations seeking support for a project that would qualify as educational or charitable. Funding must support Ohio residents, and all agencies must demonstrate collaboration with the American Cancer Society. CIG grants are funded through Relay For Life events in Ohio.
