Job description — Ohio governor
The governor serves as the chief executive of Ohio and is the political and ceremonial head of the state, according to the Ohio Governor’s Office. The governor may also assume additional roles, such as the commander-in-chief of the Ohio National Guard forces when not federalized, and the ability to commute or pardon a criminal sentence. The governor works closely with the lieutenant governor — similar to the relationship of a president and vice president — to effectively run the state. The governor also holds rank in a cabinet comprised of the directors of various state agencies. Each is responsible for the management and operation of his or her agency.
