DOWNTOWN AKRON — Akron General Medical Center recently joined forces with local area businesses for the Muffins for Mammograms campaign — a two-day effort to raise $38,500 for free mammograms by selling gourmet muffins, brownies and cookies while distributing life-saving breast health information. Main Street Gourmet provided the muffins, brownies and cookies, and Akron General and Main Street employees packaged and assembled the orders. This year’s effort raised more than $12,500. WQMX (94.9 FM) hosted its annual Bosom Buddies dinner and concert, which offered silent and oral auctions and performances by Clay Walker, Josh Gracin and Gary Nichols at Tangier restaurant. Proceeds from the concert totaled more than $26,000. The Susan G. Komen Foundation and the American Cancer Society provided additional support for this year’s effort. Proceeds pay for mammograms for uninsured women, which are offered all through the year. For more information about the program, call (330) 344-AGMC (2462).
