Festival of Lights celebrated at Summit Mall

FAIRLAWN — Local dignitaries
joined about 350 area residents to celebrate Hanukkah
at the 16th annual Menorah Lighting Ceremony at Summit
Mall Dec. 18.
A community children’s choir comprised of students from Lippman Day School led the crowd in song, as pictured at top. Behind them is the nearly 10-foot-high electric menorah that was lighted by Efim Scherbakov and David Minghoff.
Scherbakov and Minghoff,
shown above, from left, reading a traditional prayer
in Russian along with the Rabbi Mendy Sasonkin from
Revere Road Synagogue, also lit the traditional oil
menorah.
Among
those enjoying the light of the traditional menorah
was choir member Morgan Mirman, 5, of Copley, pictured
at right.
Those attending also sampled
latkes and doughnuts and received Hanukkah gelt.
The eight-day celebration of Hanukkah began Dec. 15 this year.
