AKRON EDUCATION CAMPUS CAMPS
The Akron Education Campus, 700 Ghent Road in Fairlawn, will offer four different education-based camps for children beginning June 11:
√ ABC Music Mommy & Me camp by Kindermusik will teach campers fundamentals of music and provide follow-up home activities to reinforce learning. The camp is divided into three sessions (June 11-19, July 9-27 and July 30 through Aug. 17), with classes held twice a week for 45 minutes each. The cost is $60 a session, which includes all supplies and a take-home instrument.
√ Science Discovery Camp will offer 11 weeks of fun and learning for children of all ages with a different science theme headlining each weekly session. Topics will include a diverse array of subjects including dinosaurs, sea life, insects and kitchen science. Campers may register for any week at a rate of $20 per day (9:30 a.m. to 2: 30 p.m.), plus a $25 registration fee. Extended care is available from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. at a rate of $30 per day.
√ Summer Reading and Math camps provide a noncompetitive environment that emphasizes thinking and problem solving for children entering kindergarten through fifth grade. The cost is $120 per week, with each session running from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Campers are required to bring their own lunch. Individual sessions are available before or after camp at a rate of $15 per half-hour.
√ These Precious Two Months is a special summer session for children entering kindergarten and is designed to prepare them to take full advantage of their kindergarten experience. Programs are meant to increase social and visual learning traits to encourage a successful thinking education. Classes will run Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at a rate of $50 per week. A $100 registration includes the first week’s fee.

AKRON URBAN LEAGUE SUMMER CAMPS
The Akron Urban League, 250 E. Market St. in Downtown Akron, will host its annual eight-week Summer Enrichment Day Camp from June 11 through Aug. 3 for children ages 5-12. The camp offers academic, social, cultural, recreational, prevention, inclusion and tolerance education through exposure to the fine arts, music, dance, African-American history, math, computer instruction, life skills, swimming lessons, character education and leadership building. The cost of the camp is $450 for the first child in a family and $225 for each additional child for the entire eight-week program. Personal payment plans are available, with the total due by the first day of camp. Meals, materials and transportation for field trips are provided.

AKRON ZOO CAMPS
The Akron Zoo, 500 Edgewood Ave. in West Akron, will offer ZooCamp, featuring a number of age-appropriate camps for children ages 6-13 from June through August. ZooCamp is an interactive educational experience for children in which children can learn about the zoo’s animals, the environment and conservation programs that the Akron Zoo participates in to protect endangered and vulnerable species. Camps range from three- to five-day sessions and include a tour of the zoo with a ZooCamp coordinator; a chance to meet staff and animal keepers; close encounters with animal ambassadors; a T-shirt, photos and souvenir; a daily snack and a take-home craft. All camps are broken down into different age categories. Six- and 7-year-olds can choose from In My Garden, Winging It or Animal Theatre; ages 8 and 9 can choose Radical Reptiles, Eat This! or Back off Jack; ages 10 and 11 can select between Animal Enrichment or Working at the Zoo; and ages 12-14 can attend the three-day session Zoo Vet. The zoo also will offer a special program for youths ages 15 and 16 to become a Junior EdZoocator and assist staff with ZooCamp activities for younger children. All sessions are limited to 15 campers, and reservations must be made in advance. Fees range from $50 to $90, depending on the length and type of camp. Discounted rates are available for zoo members.

BACK TO THE BASICS
The Emmanuel Christian Academy, 1650 Diagonal Road in Akron, will host a Back to the Basics summer enrichment program June 11 through Aug. 10. The program incorporates the three basic academic requirements of reading, writing and math through individualized and small-group instruction. Students entering prekindergarten through eighth grade also will be able to participate in theme-based field trips and activities. Daily lunch and extended care programs also are available.

CAMP INVENTION
Camp Invention, a nationwide, nonprofit summer enrichment day camp sponsored by the National Inventors Hall of Fame, integrates science, math, history and the arts. This one-week program for boys and girls entering first through sixth grades takes place in local schools, with hands-on activities led by local teachers. CLEVELAND METROPARKS ZOO
The Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, 3900 Wildlife Way in Cleveland, will host summer day camps for children ages 5-12 from June 11 through Aug. 13. Children will explore the world of animals and exotic habitats through age-appropriate activities and crafts. Half-day camps will take place from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at a cost of $125 per week. Full-day camps will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at a cost of $180 per week. Zoo members receive discounted rates of $105 and $155, respectively. Child care is available before and after each camp for an additional charge.

CROWN POINT FARM & EDUCATION CENTER
Crown Point Farm & Education Center, 3220 Ira Road in Bath, will offer Summer Farm and Science School at Crown Point: Lessons on the Land for children ages 6-11. Five one-week sessions will take place June 18 through Aug. 3 and are designed to highlight environmental education and its connection to four guiding principles of sustainability, community, justice and spirituality. The cost is $175 per child per session. A $75 nonrefundable deposit is required by April 30. Five $100 scholarships are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

CUYAHOGA VALLEY NATIONAL PARK
The Cuyahoga Valley National Park is offering a unique mix of overnight summer camp programs for children ages 9-17 from March 2 through Aug. 7. Camps focus on hands-on encounters and immersions with the arts or natural sciences. Each week, the organization partners with talented art and science organizations to offer unique programs and opportunities. This year’s partners include Cleveland State University, The Magical Theatre Company, SAFMOD Performing Arts Ensemble, Ohio Center for Autism and Low Incidence, the Ohio Division of Wildlife, area science teachers and the National Park Service. The Cuyahoga Valley National Park Association manages each camp.

NATIONAL COMPUTER CAMP
Residential and day camps for ages 8-18 will take place at Notre Dame College, 4525 College Road in South Euclid. Participants can learn about 2D and 3D video game design, digital video production, Web page design, computer programming, A+ and Network+ certification and software applications. Campers may attend one- or two-week sessions (July 1-6, 8-13) with curriculum that is age-appropriate and suitable for beginners or advanced students. An optional sports program also is available.

SPACE DOMES AMERICA
Space Domes America teaches children entering first through eighth grades about all things scientific, including the history and nature of science, space science, astronomy, geology, zoology, botany, paleontology, chemistry, engineering, archaeology, community planning, meteorology and earth science. Campers’ days are filled with building projects, experiments, exploration, problem solving, teamwork and fun. According to the Space Domes America Web site, the dome complex located at Copley High School has suffered considerable storm damage and will no longer be available. Summer camps will take place at two different locations this season. Camps will be held at Old Trail School, 2315 Ira Road in Bath, during the weeks of July 9 and July 16 and at Copley-Fairlawn Middle School, 1531 S. Cleveland-Massillon Road in Copley, during the weeks of July 2 and July 23. Campers must bring a packed lunch and drink. Extra snacks and drinks will be provided.
