BARBERTON — The Summit County Mental Health Association, PEERS Project, and the Summit Family and Children First Council sponsor a support group for parents of children with emotional, mental or neurobiological disorders. Parents are encouraged to join if their child has a diagnosis of ADHD, mood disorder, anxiety, depression, bipolar, oppositional defiant disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, Asperger’s Syndrome, Tourette’s, schizophrenia or any other mental health disorder. This program provides support to parents coping with the struggles in caring for a child with special needs. Child care is provided. DOWNTOWN AKRON — Neurologist Dr. Hugh Miller will conduct a free presentation on “Parkinson’s Disease — Improving Quality of Life” March 21 at 6 p.m. at Neurology & Neuroscience Associates (NNA), 130 W. Exchange St. Miller will talk about advanced medical treatments, therapies and rehabilitation for Parkinson’s disease, including deep brain stimulation, and occupational therapist Marla Heckendorn will discuss specialized rehabilitation services for patients. CLEVELAND — The Arthritis Foundation’s 2007 Drug Guide on arthritis medications is now available. The free guide is a supplement to Arthritis Today. The publication includes up-to-date listings of over-the-counter, nonsteroidal, anti-inflammatory drugs, as well as prescription medications such as COX-2 inhibitors, corticosteroids and disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs used to treat arthritis and related conditions. Drugs to treat osteoporosis, fibromyalgia, gout and Sjogren’s syndrome also are included.
