GREATER AKRON — The Akron-Summit County Public Library’s 2007 Summer Reading Program will take place June 11 through Aug. 3 at all library locations and bookmobile services. “Get a Clue” is the theme for the children’s programs. Activities will include baby and preschool story times, Jungle Terry, Magician Rick Smith Jr. and Juggler Kevin Delagrange. The teen summer reading theme is “YNK You Never Know @ Your Library.” Activities will include Mad Science CSI Laboratory, Hardware Jewelry, Karaoke Kraze, Mystery Programs, Movie Nights and Tie Dye Parties. Adults are encouraged to check out computer programs, book discussions, author visits, book sales and programs on cooking, gardening and crafting. Participants can enter drawings for book and movie gift certificates and tickets to Library Night at the Akron Aeros game Aug. 7. CLEVELAND — For one day every summer, Cleveland Metroparks Zoo showcases more than 100 dogs, cats, kittens and puppies in need of loving homes. Meet Your Best Friend at the Zoo will take place this year June 2 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. More than 20 local animal shelters and rescue groups will be on hand seeking adoptive parents. The organizations also will offer advice on how to choose the right pet and how best to care for it. Each shelter sets its own adoption fees and policies. The event also will feature a police K-9 demonstration, giveaways by Pet Supplies Plus and Purina, appearances by Fox 8 News and Q104 personalities and more. The first 2,000 children younger than 12 to enter the zoo that day will receive a souvenir trading card commemorating the zoo’s 125th anniversary. BEACHWOOD — A free talk titled “One-Step Web Pages: A Potpourri of Genealogical Search Tools” will be presented by Stephen Morse, who maintains 100 Web-based tools in 12 separate categories at his Web site www.stevemorse.org. The talk will take place June 6 at 7:30 p.m. at Menorah Park in the first-floor auditorium, 27100 Cedar Road. There will be time for questions. HUDSON — Starting in July, the city of Hudson will host a farmers market on the village green. The organizers of this event are Leadership Hudson, a group of community business leaders affiliated with Rotary, as well as a collection of civic-minded residents. The Hudson Farmers Market is currently looking for vendors to participate every Saturday; the market hopes to include a range of producers and calls upon anyone interested to join. The Hudson Farmers Market hopes to become a successful attraction, drawing visitors from within and outside the Hudson area.
