Board accepts donation of playground equipment
Copley-Fairlawn City Schools Board of Education

The Copley-Fairlawn City Schools Board of Education accepted a donation of $14,500 in playground equipment for Arrowhead Primary School.
The donation was made by the school’s Parent-Teacher Association.
Also at the May 15 meeting, Arrowhead Primary School Principal Gary Novak was awarded a two-year contract.
Students of the Month for April also were honored at the meeting.
They include:
Arrowhead Primary School: fourth-grader Justin Williams, son of Vanessa Shepherd-Williams and Herbert Williams, of Copley. He was nominated by teacher Carol Sandora.
Fort Island Primary School: Shelby Timm, daughter of Jay and Liz Timm, of Copley. The fourth-grader was nominated by teacher Cathleen Shepherd.
Herberich Primary School: fourth-grader Minjee Kwon, daughter of Yongmoon and Youngmi Choi, of Copley. She was nominated by teacher Leila Uthman.
Copley-Fairlawn Middle School: Kayla Miller, daughter of Douglas and Kim Miller, of Copley. The fifth-grader was nominated by teachers Angie Matesevac, Mary Dawson and Joyce Shorter.
Copley High School: 12th-grader Emily Hoffman, of Copley. She was recommended by teacher Mark Boesch.
Copley-Fairlawn Middle School March student of the month Lacey Jeong and Fort Island Primary School March student of the month Nathaniel Holland also were recognized.
The board also recognized Educator of the Year selections, which included Toni Ehrman, of Copley High School; Lori Herro, of Copley-Fairlawn Middle School; Cathy Wooley, of Herberich Primary School; Mary Kase, of Fort Island Primary School; and Jeanne Mathey, of Arrowhead Primary School.
PTA Helping Hands honorees were honored for their volunteer work with district schools. They are Kay Makishi for Copley High School, Jeannie Alexander for Copley-Fairlawn Middle School, Melanie Hohenadel for Herberich Primary School, Mark Miller for Fort Island Primary School and Paula Mularcik for Arrowhead Primary School.
Ruth Meklus was honored for her selection as the PDK/Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year. Her award was presented by Novak and Wal-Mart Assistant Manager Karen Cool.
In other business, the board:
√ authorized 2007-08 membership in the Ohio High School Athletic Association for Copley High School and Copley-Fairlawn Middle School;
√ hired summer school teachers;
√ recalled Jolene Testa, an art teacher, from the reduction in force list effective with the 2007-08 school year;
√ hired Jim Borchik as summer school supervisor at a rate of $3,500;
√ accepted the resignation of Michael Kuthan as head softball coach, effective at the end of the 2006-07 school year; and
√ awarded supplemental contracts for the 2007-08 school year.
The board’s next regular meeting will be June 27 at 7 p.m. in the main office conference room at Copley High School, 3797 Ridgewood Road.
