Woodridge Walk-a-Thon a success
By Kim Gravis
The Woodridge Board of Education met May 15 and discussed the third annual Woodridge Walk-a-Thon that took place earlier this month.
Teri Sigler, curriculum coordinator for the district and chairwoman for the event, said more than $6,300 was raised for the Disabled American Veterans Charitable Service Trust and the family of Adam Poppenhouse. Sigler also added that a group photo was taken and will be placed on postcards for the students to send messages to military troops serving overseas.
Superintendent Jeffrey Graham said the event initially started with an idea to have the schools, churches and community come together for a goal.
In other news, Woodridge Middle School Principal Linda Ocepek said Woodridge Community Days will take place Sept. 28-29. This is the fourth year for the community and school event and will feature music and games for all ages. Ocepek said there is a need for additional community organizations to have tables on Sept. 29. The table space is free to participants. The school band and choir will be represented.
