Student concerned by board members’ actions
To the editor:
In regards to the May 30 [Green Local Schools Board of Education] meeting, I found the actions and behavior of [board members] Mrs. Nancy Pruneski and Mr. Bob Campbell extremely rude and unprofessional.
While my fellow eighth-grade Ensemble members were speaking about Mrs. [Nichon Jakuszewski] J, Mrs. Pruneski was rolling her eyes as well as giving the students dirty looks, laughing and whispering.
As parents, former students, current students, as well as Mrs. J and her husband, Jonathan, were speaking, she was seen by several people laughing and rolling her eyes. At one point she was putting on lipstick as if it was more important than what people had to say. Even while the Ensemble was performing, she was rolling her eyes and acting like she just wanted us to stop singing. She was looking down upon everyone in that room.
As parents, former Green High School football players and current players were speaking about the [supplemental] contract renewal of Coach Elden McVicker, she again was acting as though they did not know what they were talking about and again was seen rolling her eyes and whispering to Mr. Campbell. When one of Coach McVicker’s former players got up to speak, he became very emotional. None of the players who got up to speak had a long period of time to prepare a speech, and Mrs. Pruneski needs to understand that she could not expect to hear the kind of speech you would hear during a presidential debate, and she needs to understand that many of the people who spoke were just kids, and she was being very rude by laughing, rolling her eyes and whispering. I found Mr. Campbell telling Mrs. J that her speaking was not on the agenda, when in fact it was in the packet of the night’s topics of discussion, extremely rude.
These two people need to understand that it is not all about them; it is about the city of Green, or so the board says it is. I feel Mrs. Pruneski and Mr. Campbell need to show the community more respect than what was shown last Wednesday.
