Open house scheduled for
Copley land-use plan
COPLEY — Copley Township residents are invited to an open house to learn more about and give their input on the township’s comprehensive land-use plan.
The open house will take place June 21 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Copley Community Center, 1278 Sunset Drive.
Township Administrator Peggy
Spraggins said this is a good opportunity for residents
to learn about the different components of the plan,
including land use, natural resources, septic systems,
the Joint Economic Development District
agreement with Akron, community character and quality
of life issues.
Members of the Steering Committee,
the Technical Assistance Committee, trustees and township
department heads will be available to answer questions
and to listen to residents’ comments and concerns,
Spraggins said.
There also will be displays of
photographs taken by the Steering Committee that represent
the best and worst of land use in Copley, along with
information about what the new requirements for septic
systems entail, Spraggins added.
Each Copley resident should have
received a four-page survey on land use in the township
with the most recent issue of the township newsletter,
Copley Connection. Residents who did not receive the
survey can get a copy of it by visiting the township’s
Web site at www.copley
.oh.us. The survey is under
“Comprehensive Land-Use Plan” on the Zoning
page.
Each person attending the open
house will receive a free water bottle while supplies
last, Spraggins said.
Copley trustees request liquor
license hearing
COPLEY— At a June 5 special
meeting, the Copley Township Board of Trustees requested
a hearing on a liquor license application by Johnny
Js Pub.
The pub has requested a D-5 liquor
license that would allow it to serve on the premises
spirits, wine and beer until 2:30 a.m. The pub would
be located at 620 Ridgewood Crossings Drive in a shopping
center off Ridgewood Road on the old Highlander Golf
property.
The hearing date and time have
not been set.
The board also approved purchase
of $10,600 of software and hardware, including a new
server from Amos Data Systems. The new software and
hardware will update the township’s computer systems
to be compatible with the new 800 Mhz radio system approved
earlier in the year.
Township Administrator Peggy
Spraggins also said the board has put on hold its search
for a new fire chief. She said the board thought Assistant
Fire Chief Jim Rogers was doing a good job and felt
no pressure to make a decision quickly. She said she
expects the board to take up the issue again at the
end of July. Rogers has been acting as fire chief since
former Fire Chief Todd Chambers retired in March.
The board’s next regular
meeting is set for June 25 at 7 p.m. at the Copley Township
administrative offices, 1540 S. Cleveland-Massillon
Road.
