NORTH AKRON — Summit County Fiscal Officer John Donofrio’s office will host its annual Town Meeting at Chapel Hill Mall July 6 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Donofrio invites senior residents to meet with his office’s Homestead Exemption staff. With the passage of House Bill 119, the biennial state budget, the Ohio General Assembly has expanded the homestead relief program, a reduction in property taxes for senior citizens, according to Donofrio. The income limits under the former homestead program have been eliminated. Under the new program, every senior citizen age 65 or older or permanently disabled homeowner of any age will receive an exemption of $25,000 on the market value of their home, regardless of their income. Staff members from the auditor and treasurer divisions will be present to answer questions regarding property appraisals, real estate taxes and assessments, mobile home taxes, dog and vendor’s licenses and fuel-quality testing. Treasurer division staff will be on hand to discuss the Residential Linked Deposit Program called Fiscal Funds, the Real Estate Discount Program, the Delinquent Tax Payment Program and any questions regarding real estate tax bills. Second-half 2006 real estate tax bills were mailed in June and are due by July 13.
