SOUTH AKRON — The Akron Racers will participate in a benefit game against the Black Stockings Baseball Club, a vintage base ball club from Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens July 16. The game will benefit Tyler Goodin, who five years ago at age 15 faced Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Goodin has been in remission but was recently diagnosed with Ewing’s sarcoma and has undergone a bone marrow transplant. He is beginning chemotherapy and is no longer able to work. Game tickets are $7 and can be purchased at the Stadium Box Office weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. or by calling (330) 376-8188.
DOWNTOWN AKRON — For the third summer, Third Coast Sports will host Faith Day, this year in 46 cities and with participation from 10 major leagues, including July 18 for the Akron Aeros game at Canal Park. A pregame concert performance by Hawk Nelson will begin at 5:30 p.m., with the game immediately following. Tickets are available for $15 at the Aeros ticket office or by calling (330) 253-5153. SPRINGFIELD — Ohio Bombers Baseball 13U, 12U and 10U tryouts for the 2008 summer travel teams will take place July 29 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Akron/Springfield JEDD Park, 2275 Pickle Road. The Bombers are looking for competitive, dedicated and aggressive players who want to develop their skills against the best teams in the state. NEW FRANKLIN — Reserve tickets for Manchester Panthers football games will be available as of Aug. 13 in the Manchester High School office, 437 W. Nimisila Road. Ticket prices are $8 for each of the five home games, for a total of $40 per seat. Also available are adult and student All Sports passes at $75 for adults and $55 for students. Each pass is good for all high school home-game paying athletic events during the fall, winter and spring. Senior citizens living in the Manchester Local Schools District area may obtain a pass that entitles them to free admission to any home high school athletic event. The pass is needed for free admission to school events.
