Heartbeats take home two titles at national championship
ORLANDO, Fla. — Thirty members of the Heartbeats
Jump Rope Team traveled to Orlando, Fla., to compete
in the 2007 U.S. National Jump Rope Championship, which
took place June 22-24 at Disney World.
The members, shown at right, vied for national titles against more than 900 competitors representing 66 teams from 26 states, according to Heartbeat officials.
While the Heartbeats have won a number of national titles over the years for their team show, this is the first time any Heartbeats have earned the coveted, individual event Grand National Championship title. Two members won national titles.
Results of Grand National Championship (best in the nation, all age groups, for their event) include:
double dutch speed relay, fifth place: Mike Fry, Anna Herman and Lisa Brown;
double dutch pairs speed relay, fifth place: Fry, Herman, Lisa Brown and Liz Michalos;
3-minute speed-male, third place: Fry; single rope pairs-female, fifth place: Meghan Butterfield and Sarah Alexander;
single rope pairs-open, first place: Robbie Csontos and Jenny Evans;
double dutch 3-person freestyle, fourth place: Robbie Csontos, Evans and Lauren Rogerson;
double dutch 3-person freestyle, sixth place: Chris Csontos, Beth Schrader and Catherine Ford;
double dutch 3-person freestyle, seventh place: Fry, Lisa Brown and Herman; and
double dutch pairs freestyle, first place: Mike Brown, Lisa Brown, Herman and Liz Michalos.
The Heartbeats are comprised of jumpers from the Copley-Fairlawn, Highland, Revere, Strongsville and Wadsworth school districts, Old Trail School, Walsh Jesuit High School, Kent State University, Michigan State University and Oberlin College. The team is based at Pinnacle Sports in Granger and is coached by Pam Evans.
Next up for the Heartbeats is
a trip to Knoxville, Tenn.,
where 19 team members will compete July 26-30 in the
2007 AAU Junior Olympics.
