• DOWNTOWN AKRON — The Akron General Medical Center Sleep Disorders Center will celebrate its 20th anniversary with an open house July 18. The event will include a lecture on the value of sleep, by Dr. Howard Shapiro, a neurologist and director of Akron General’s Sleep Disorders Center. “How to Get a Good Night’s Sleep” will be presented at 1 p.m. in Akron General’s Eva P. Craig Auditorium. The address will touch on recent research findings and provide healthy tips and suggestions for sleeping soundly. Refreshments will be served. • SUMMIT COUNTY — The Minority Health Roundtable has printed a Healthy Living Guide to provide health prevention information to Summit County residents. The Minority Health Roundtable is a group of people and organizations whose mission is to reduce years of potential life lost from all causes, focusing on minority populations. The purpose of the guide is to let people know where they can get health services to avoid developing severe health problems. This pocket-sized guide contains resources for health education/prevention/support groups, health services, health screenings and other community support agencies. It includes a map showing locations of the services. Copies of the guide are available at the East Akron Community House. Call (330) 773-6838 to arrange a pickup.
