AKRON — Tim Rickus, a member of the St. Vincent-St. Mary High School (STVM) Class of 1980, has been appointed to a five-year term to the STVM Board of Trustees. Rickus, of the Portage Lakes area, has been actively involved at STVM as both a parent and volunteer. In 2002, he assisted with renovations to the cafeteria and Student Center and helped to build the student snack shop, known as the Shaleleigh Shack. From 2002 to 2003, he also assisted the athletic department as part-time business promotions manager. In 2006, he received the Father Thomas F. Mahar Outstanding Alumni Award, presented by the STVM Alumni Association.
DOWNTOWN AKRON — The University of Akron (UA) this year awarded more than $180,000 in summer fellowships to its faculty. Recipients included Yang Yun, of Uniontown, in the biomedical engineering department. His study was titled “Controlled Release of SiRNA in LTP Nanospheres for Therapeutic Gene Silencing Applications in Wound Healing.”

18. Ridgeway, the Green City Council member for Ward
3, is a 1974 graduate of Green
High School. She earned a bachelor’s degree in
art history and a graduate degree in elementary education
from the University of
California.
