SPRINGFIELD — Overstreet Financial Services, an accounting firm located at 2858 S. Arlington St., will present a program on “Don’t Be Late in ’08: Taxation With Representation,” Oct. 11 from 5:30 to 9 p.m. The networking and open house event will include door prizes, music, food and a proclamation presentation. GREEN — The Summit County Sheriff’s Office will present the 12th Citizens’ Academy Oct. 16. The 10-week program will be offered on Tuesdays starting Oct. 16 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Sheriff’s Training Facility, 2825 Greensburg Road. The program will include a tour of the Summit County Jail and the Mounted Patrol Unit barn at Southgate Park and information about patrol, narcotics investigation, crime prevention, weapons, community policing, traffic laws, bomb threat management and the K-9 Unit. DOWNTOWN AKRON — Kenmore Construction Co., in cooperation with the city of Akron’s Bureau of Engineering, will close ramp 59C on a daily basis from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. as of Oct. 1 for approximately two weeks. The ramp runs northbound from Dart Avenue, just north of Center Street, down the hill and parallel to the innerbelt and empties into Dart Avenue at the rear of the federal building. The closure is needed for bridgework for the Cascade Locks Bikeway, according to city officials. Traffic will be detoured via Ash, Mill, Main and Market streets.
DOWNTOWN AKRON — The Akron Water Department will continue to flush fire hydrants Sunday through Thursday from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. in the Downtown Akron area. This area is bordered by Kingswood Drive to the north, Russel Avenue to the south, South Broadway Avenue to the east and Portage Path to the west. DOWNTOWN AKRON — The Cascade Locks Park Association and EnviroScience Inc. are looking for volunteers to help clean up the banks of the Ohio & Erie Canal and Little Cuyahoga River Oct. 6 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Volunteers are asked to meet at the Mustill Store. DOWNTOWN AKRON — The Salvation Army Ladies Auxiliary will host a free volunteer open house and meeting Oct. 10 at 7 p.m. at the Salvation Army Citadel, 195 S. Maple St. The auxiliary is seeking help with Christmas projects, including angel tree staffing, bell ringer/red kettle staffing, toy packing and distribution.
