Issue No. 38 — Norton fire levy
NORTON — Norton voters
will see Issue No. 38 — a 3-mill fire levy —
on the Nov. 6 General Election ballot.
If passed, the 3-mill levy would generate $820,000 per year, provide funds for construction of a new fire station, replace aging equipment and provide training and schooling for employees, said Norton Fire Department Interim Chief Mike Schultz. The cost for an owner of a $100,000 home would be an additional $92 per year.
The department is now funded by two levies. The first, passed in 1988, was for 2.6 mills, with 1.6 mills for fire and 1 mill for EMS. The second, passed in 1995, was for 2 mills, with 1 mill for fire and 1 mill for EMS.
Schultz said if the levy fails, 24-hour staffing in the fire station would be re-examined.
The city of Norton’s Web site, www.cityofnorton.org, provides in-depth details on the levy.
