AKRON — The Women’s Endowment Fund (WEF) of the Akron Community Foundation is requesting proposals to support new or existing economic empowerment programs for local females and those that address safety and violence issues facing women and girls. Proposals are due Nov. 15 and will be reviewed by a committee of WEF board members and donors. Award decisions are made based on the organization’s capacity to implement the proposed project and meet the objectives of the request for proposals, which can be downloaded at www. akroncommunityfdn.org/funds/wef. Grants will be announced in February. The total amount to be awarded is approximately $40,000. Applicants may apply for any amount up to a maximum of $40,000. MEDINA/SUMMIT COUNTIES — The Rape Crisis Center of Medina and Summit Counties has been awarded a $500 grant from the Westfield Insurance Foundation’s Volunteer Grant Program. Katie Herbst, a Westfield employee and volunteer with the center for the past year, was awarded the grant based on her volunteer commitment to the organization. In the last year, Herbst contributed 108 hours to the organization offering crisis intervention, support and referral information while answering the crisis hotline. She also participated in community events sponsored by the RCC to raise public awareness regarding sexual violence prevention.
