BATH — U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) has nominated Bath resident Vanita Oelschlager as a 2007 Angel in Adoption for her outstanding support for adoptive families in Northeast Ohio. The Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute (CCAI), which administers the Angels in Adoption program, honored Oelschlager and more than 180 other Angels Oct. 4 in Washington, D.C. The program honors those who have enriched the lives of foster children and orphans in the United States and abroad. Oelschlager’s history of advocacy for adoption is highlighted by a $2 million gift she and her husband, Jim, made to Akron Children’s Hospital to establish the Oak Adoptive Health Center. Since opening the doors, the center has prepared and educated hundreds of families involved in domestic, international and special needs adoptions. They also provide medical, psychological and developmental evaluations and connect families with the resources they need.
