Chef Curtis Stone cooks for Hospice

FAIRLAWN — Chef Curtis
Stone, star of TLC’s “Take Home Chef,”
headlined a benefit for Hospice of Visiting Nurse Service
(VNS), a member of the Akron General Health System,
Oct. 12 at The Hilton Akron/Fairlawn.
On Stone’s show, he approaches people in grocery stores and offers to cook meals for them.
The theme for this year’s event was “Recipe for Comfort: A Celebration of Food” and featured Stone on stage preparing a four-course meal, with wine pairings, for those in attendance to observe and enjoy.
Stone is shown above with Rima Muakkassa, of Akron, preparing creamy soup of field mushrooms.
Dr. Deborah Plate, of Hudson, clinical associate director of the Akron General Center for Family Medicine as well as host of the Akron General Health Report, was emcee for the event. She is shown at top with Stone.
The event also featured a kitchen- and food-themed silent auction.
Shown at top right, from left, Anne Lowery, of Fairlawn, looks on while Stone shakes hands with Justin Rogers, of Akron, who was instrumental in the capital campaign responsible for building the Hospice of Visiting Nurse Service Justin T. Rogers Care Center on Ridgewood Road in Copley in 1994. Seated next to Rogers is his wife, Jane Rogers, and John Wilson, of Akron.
Proceeds from the event benefited Hospice of VNS, which alleviates suffering, engenders hope, promotes living and facilitates grieving among patients with serious or life-limiting illnesses, their families and their communities.
