NORTH AKRON — On Nov. 4 at 3 p.m., ETC School of Musical Arts will officially kick off the 30th season of entertainment with its annual Fall Show at North High School, 985 Gorge Blvd. The award-winning groups the All Americans and the Main Street Singers will perform with their new costumes and sets. Several solos and small ensembles also will be featured. Advance reserved tickets are available for $10 and can be purchased through members or by e-mailing etcchoir@aol.com. Tickets at the door will be $12.
DOWNTOWN AKRON — Cellist Yo-Yo Ma, along with pianist Kathryn Stott, will perform as part of Tuesday Musical’s 120th anniversary season Nov. 7 at 7:30 p.m. at E.J. Thomas Performing Arts Hall. Ma has established the Silk Road Project to promote the study of the cultural, artistic and intellectual traditions along the ancient Silk Road trade route. Stott is a longtime friend and collaborator. Ma and Stott will perform works by Schubert, Shostakovich and Franck. They also will share their love of the tango with a Piazzolla piece as well as a relatively new piece by Gismonti. Beginning this season, the preconcert talks will commence at 6:30 p.m. Jim Meyers, a cellist and recording engineer at Kent State University, will return as the guest lecturer for Ma’s concert. This 30-minute talk is free to any ticket holder. Curtain time, beginning this season, is 7:30 p.m. for all evening concerts. Single ticket prices for the Yo-Yo Ma concert are $60 and $45.
