BARBERTON — The Magic City Kiwanis has scheduled its annual Art Auction for Nov. 2 at the Barberton Moose, 272 31st St. N.W. Viewing of the artwork will begin at 6 p.m., followed by live bidding at 7. This event is open to the public, but vendor rules require it be by invitation only. FAIRLAWN — St. Hilary Parish will be present a Festival of the Arts Nov. 2-4 as part of an ongoing celebration of its 50 years as part of the diocese of Cleveland. The event will begin Nov. 2 from 7 to 9 p.m. with an art show and reception. The art show will continue the next evening following the 4 p.m. liturgy. The culinary arts will be on display for tasting following the 7:30, 9 and 11 a.m. liturgies Nov. 4. The festival will conclude with the performing arts at 1 p.m. in the church. The various St. Hilary choirs will perform. Also featured will be the handbell choir and the sacred dance ministry. This event is free and open to the public.
DOWNTOWN AKRON — Akron General Medical Center will present its “Before Baby” event Nov. 4 from 1 to 3 p.m. in the hospital’s main lobby and Conference Center. Local vendors will offer information for expecting couples. Parents and grandparents can tour Akron General’s New Life Center and enter to win a raffle prize. CLEVELAND — Playhouse Square Center has teamed up with the American Red Cross Northern Ohio Blood Services Region to help the Red Cross increase its blood supply. All who donate blood to the American Red Cross throughout October will receive special discounts or presale opportunities on Playhouse Square shows like “The Nutcracker,” “Wicked,” “Mamma Mia,” “Avenue Q The Broadway Musical,” “The Color Purple” and “Jersey Boys.” In addition, donors will be automatically entered to win free tickets to upcoming Playhouse Square shows. Playhouse Square also will have a Red Cross blood drive Nov. 5 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Ohio Threatre. To donate blood, you must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds, be in general good health and provide a valid photo identification upon donation. DOWNTOWN AKRON — Author/filmmaker Brad Warner is scheduled for the Main Event Speaker Series, an author series featuring prominent people from the worlds of literature, the arts, politics and journalism, at the Akron-Summit County Public Library’s Main Library, 60 S. High St. Warner will speak Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. Taking a path that has led from growing up in Wadsworth to playing punk rock, working on Japanese monster movies and becoming an ordained Zen Master, Warner is the author of two books on Zen Buddhism. CLEVELAND — Celebrity chefs Giada De Laurentiis, Alton Brown, Duff Goldman, Rick Bayless and Jason Roberts will be on hand at the Fabulous Food Show, which will take place Nov. 9-10 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Nov. 11 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the I-X Center.
