Issue No. 9 — Springfield police levy
SPRINGFIELD — Residents in Springfield Township will be asked to approve Issue No. 9, a renewal of a 3-mill, five-year levy used to fund police operations, on the Nov. 6 General Election ballot.
The levy, which would not raises taxes, was first approved by voters in 1992 and is estimated to generate more than $527,000 in revenue, which represents one-quarter of the police department’s budget, according to Springfield Police Chief John Smith.
The levy would cost the owner of a $100,000 home about $45 annually, according to the Summit County Fiscal Office’s Web site. Collection would begin in 2008.
“We are not asking for new money; we have made some cuts, moved some things around and got some grants so that we could live within the budget,” Smith said.
