FAIRLAWN — Wigs N’ Things Boutique has a large selection of wigs and hairpieces and products to care for them, as well as hats, turbans and scarves.

The 35-year-old business is owned by Deborah Carter and James Renner. Originally, it was located in Rolling Acres Mall, but has since moved to 77 N. Miller Road, Suite B.

Carter said the business is more than just a wig store.

“We offer help to those looking for an alternative to hair loss caused by chemotherapy or radiation, stress, major surgery and diseases such as alopecia or trichotillomania,” she said. “For many women, their identity is connected to their hair. We offer more than 500 monofilament, human hair, synthetic and blended wigs; hairpieces; and hair extensions for women, men and children.”

Wigs and hairpieces also can be used for fun or fashion, according to Carter.

“It is nice to have a wig or hairpiece for when you have a bad hair day, when you are going on vacation or just to enhance your style,” said Carter.

Carter stated the boutique has stylists available to help customers find a wig or hairpiece that looks natural, and customers receive individualized attention. The store also has privacy booths where customers can work with staff in finding the right hairpiece and for personal fittings.

Customers can usually walk out of the store the same day with the right wig or hairpiece, and orders are usually available the next day, according to Carter.

Carter stated that keeping wigs clean and looking their best is important, and the store carries a variety of products to help customers do that. Staff members go over product instructions with customers to make sure they understand how to use the products they purchase, she added.

The store also sells turbans, sleep caps, seasonal hats and handmade scarves that can serve as an alternative to a wig. Instructions also are offered to show customers how to create head coverings using scarves.

Wigs N’ Things also sells a variety of gift baskets, all of which can be customized for an individual’s needs, as well as gift certificates, according to Carter.

Other services available through the store include: wig washing and styling; personalization of wigs through trimming, thinning and styling; and a clinic for brow, lash and skin care.

Store hours are Mondays through Fridays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
