DOWNTOWN AKRON — WKSU has opened a new street-side studio in the United Building, fronting South Main Street with a view of the Federal Building. The Main Street Studio project involved retrofitting and soundproofing. The Akron Bureau allows WKSU staff to create quick turnaround reports away from the station’s home base at Kent State University. The new Main Street Studio will be a hub for regional reporting, as well as occasionally hosting WKSU’s broadcasts of “All Things Considered” and “Morning Edition.” Support for completing the new studio came from the J.M. Smucker Co., along with the Lisle M. Buckingham Fund of the Akron Community Foundation, the Mary S. and David C. Corbin Foundation, the Mirapaul Foundation, State & Federal Communications and individual donors. Microphones and headphones were provided by Audio-Technica.
