Chez-Del celebrates new flagship store with weekend-long event

WEST AKRON — Chez-Del Home Furnishings & Interior Design invites the community to attend its Welcome Home Weekend event Oct. 19 and 20 at its permanent home at 480 W. Exchange St.

The weekend-long event will feature refreshments, contests to win individual pieces — from furniture to accessories — and a chance to win a $500 Chez-Del gift card.

It also creates an opportunity for current and previous customers to become acquainted with the Chez-Del of today and its renovated, 25,000-square-foot furniture showroom located in the mid-town medical corridor, according to company officials. Featuring three floors of design and décor inspiration, the showroom is intended to cater to a new generation of clientele.

“We’re offering a larger, broader range of furniture styles, textures, fabrics and accessories than ever before at competitive and economical prices,” said Tim DelMedico, co-owner of Chez-Del. “With more space to discuss interior design options, we can help people visualize how their rooms can be transformed.”

The Welcome Home event will run from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. tomorrow, Oct. 19, and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 20. For additional information, call 330-867-6100 or visit www.chez-del.com.

Summit of Sustainability announces award winners

SUMMIT COUNTY — This is the inaugural year for a countywide awards program that will showcase the best examples of commercial energy efficiency, waste reduction and involvement of employees in three categories.

The Summit of Sustainability awards program culminates in an awards luncheon Oct. 25 at The University of Akron’s Student Center Ballroom. Twenty-five applications were received, and the winners were selected by a panel of judges. The 2012 Summit of Sustainability winners are:

• Companies with over 250 employees: Bridgestone Americas

• Companies with 249 employees or less: Visual Marking Systems, Sustainable Green Printing Partnership

• Nonprofit: Akron Zoological Park

The award’s founding members are Akron, Summit County, Keep Akron Beautiful, the Greater Akron Chamber and the Summit Akron Solid Waste Management Authority.

According to organizers, to be sustainable is to balance economic, environmental and social concerns and to think about how actions taken today will affect future generations. It is also about helping the community save energy and money, create more transportation choices, preserve clean air and bring economic prosperity through the process.

The panels of judges for the awards competition were: Nicholas Zingale, faculty member, Cleveland State University; Stacy Willet, faculty member, The University of Akron; Sam Rubens, administrator, Akron Regional Air Quality Management District; Robert Marshall, AIA, principal, Robert Marshall Architecture; and Michele Kilroy, LEED AP, executive director, Northeast Ohio Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council.
