Hough said she started the company to give her family a healthy treat that does not compromise on taste.
“After countless hours in the kitchen and thousands of taste-tests among family, friends and co-workers, and a lot of nutrition research, I finally mastered the secret to a guilt-free and delicious cupcake,” she said.
She opened her first bakery in 2010 at 125 Ghent Road in Merchants Square and a second store in Strongsville in July 2012. In August, she said she “took the company national” by opening a bakery in a suburb of Texas.
“We all deserve to indulge in gourmet foods without compromising our health or waistlines,” she said. “Püre deLitE cupcakes have half the calories, fat and sugar of a traditional cupcake and are baked using pure, natural and organic ingredients, unlike my competitors.”
Hough said her cupcakes are healthier because she uses organic whole wheat flour, organic pure cane sugar and no sugar substitutes or sugar alcohols, and fresh fruits and vegetables.
The bakery offers cupcakes in 140 flavors, including breakfast favorites such as Caramel Latte, French Toast and cereal flavors, as well as classics such as Chocolate Lava and Vanilla deLite. For those 21 and older, there are 15 additional flavors such as the Strawberry Daiquiri, Appletini, the Mudslide and Irish Coffee.
New flavors are offered every week.
In addition to cupcakes, customers can purchase individual pies, cakes, cookies, French macaroons, cake balls, cake pops, biscotti and icing shots. The bakery also sells gluten-free and vegan varieties of most items.
Püre deLitE also can create custom cupcakes and cakes for special events, custom colors, three-dimensional items, edible monograms and more. Special orders are limited to minimum half a dozen or more cupcakes and require a minimum two-day notice. Stands are available to showcase the desserts, and gift boxes can be created, she said.
The shop also offers sit-down service, with a variety of specialty coffees available.
