FAIRLAWN — Barbers West, located at 2950 W. Market St. in Suite P., offers more than 30 years of hair-cutting experience.

The shop, which is located behind the Seibert-Keck Insurance building, opened in October. Owner and barber Cindy Richards said she and barber Venessa Van Almen worked at Pilgrim Square Barber Shop for a number of years before deciding to open a new shop.

“I wanted to create a shop that had the elements of traditional barbering with a modern flare,” said Richards. “We offer a family-friendly environment, a comfortable waiting room, complimentary coffee, free Wi-Fi and TVs.”

One wall of the new shop is covered with a large mural of James Dean getting a haircut. Richards said she liked the picture because “James Dean had great hair.”

Richards said the shop accepts walk-ins only for haircuts, and appointments are not available.

“We offer traditional, professional and current style haircuts for men, teens and boys,” said Richards.

Richards said neck shaves are included with a haircut, and shampoos and hot towel facial shaves are available. Also offered is a child’s first haircut that comes with a keepsake certificate.

Richards stated that she and Van Almen value a customer’s input on what they want in a haircut.

“It is important to us to listen to the customer and to do the best job we can,” she added. “We take pride in our work, and we want our customers to be happy and to look their best.”

Richards said what separates them from hairstylists is they are not licensed to use chemicals in any service and they do not offer spa services.

“We are trained to use clippers and scissors to do haircuts, and we are competitively priced,” she added.

Barbers West also sells hair care products by American Crew and Woody’s, including shampoos, gels and more, according to Richards.

“We are beginning with these products because we can recommend them,” she said. “We may add more later.”

Barbers West is open Mondays through Fridays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
