Originally initiated in 2009, the collaboration has led to an improved TB College, the leadership development program for members of Torchbearers, according to organization officials. Other activities have included a joint service project, cooperation on operations and programs, coordinated fundraising, ex-officio board representatives and collaboration on marketing efforts.
Both organizations will retain independent governance and distinct identities. Torchbearers will identify as an independent affiliate of Leadership Akron.
“The agreement assures that Leadership Akron and Torchbearers will continue strengthening one another for the foreseeable future, enhancing both organizations’ impact in our community,” said Leadership Akron President Mark Scheffler.
Torchbearers was founded in 2003 by Akron area residents Scott Read and Jefferson Satterfield, both alumni of Leadership Akron. The organization was created to identify, connect and develop young leaders in Greater Akron.
“The support of Leadership Akron has been key to Torchbearers’ success, helping us to create meaningful opportunities for community service and leadership development for our members,” said Torchbearers President Amanda Leffler.
