The business, located at 117 Merz Ave., is owned by Jean Covel and celebrated its one-year anniversary Aug. 24.
Covel said she has always enjoyed baking for her children and grandchildren, and four years ago started researching the idea of opening up a shop.
That shop, Cupcake Castle, offers more than 150 flavors of cupcakes, including vanilla strawberry, lemon raspberry, chocolate peanut butter fudge, wedding cake, creamsicle, peach cobbler, snickerdoodle, apple cider pumpkin and red velvet.
Covel said she gets inspiration for her flavors from customers and children and will often credit new flavors with a note about who inspired her. She admits she has a sweet tooth and taste tests all the flavors.
“Our cupcakes are baked fresh daily using only the finest ingredients,” said Covel.
She said children are an important focus for her business.
“Cupcake Castle was designed to be an interactive experience for children,” said Covel. “We stand out from the other shops because we involve the kids, and they have a blast at the parties.”
The business offers birthday parties for children 10 and younger, specializing in princess themes that include a live princess. The parties also include a big cupcake cake, a beverage, popcorn and cotton candy machines and two cupcakes for each child to decorate and take home to enjoy.
Cupcake Wars are parties that are available for preteens and teens, where they can pick the icings, toppings and more, and then name their own creation. Covel said she teaches them how to make mini-cakes and how to use fondant, and their creations are judged.
Cupcake Castle also makes cakepops and specialty cakes, and accepts special orders for any occasion. The business also caters graduation parties, bridal and baby showers and corporate events.
In addition, they make pupcakes, a treat for dogs.
Customers can visit Cupcake Castle to enjoy a single serving of a cupcake, with a variety of beverages from which to choose. Covel said she can also create a “milkshake” for customers using a favorite cupcake. There is a large sitting area and free Wi-Fi.
Cupcake Castle is open Tuesdays through Fridays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
