Hattie Larlham announces Circle of Caring honorees

AURORA — Hattie Larlham has announced the 2013 Circle of Caring honorees. The event will take place Nov. 2 at the Bertram Inn & Conference Center.

Hattie Larlham will honor Patricia DePompei, RN, MSN, president of University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital and University Hospitals MacDonald Women’s Hospital, and William Considine, president and CEO of Akron Children’s Hospital.

According to Hattie Larlham officials, both honorees have demonstrated a sincere and devoted passion to providing health care to children of all ages and abilities, which aligns with the mission and vision of Hattie Larlham. For more than 50 years, Hattie Larlham has provided services to children and adults with developmental disabilities, inspiring people with disabilities and their families to dream and achieve, according to Hattie Larlham officials.

DePompei assumed her current position in October 2012. Prior to that, she was chief nursing officer and vice president of patient care operations. DePompei also has served in a number of local organizations and in 2011 received the Michael T. Gyves Prize for Excellence in Obstetrics.

Considine has served as president of Akron Children’s Hospital for 33 years. According to Hattie Larlham officials, he is one of the longest tenured hospital CEOs in the country and is known nationally and internationally as a leader and advocate on issues affecting health care for children. Considine is a fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives and a past chairman of the National Association of Children’s Hospitals and Related Institutions. In 2011, the Akron Community Foundation presented him with the Bert A. Polsky Humanitarian Award. Recently, Considine was appointed to the board of the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.

The Circle of Caring event features a cocktail reception, full course dinner, pianist, wine pull and silent, live and fund-a-need auctions to support Hattie Larlham. Sponsorships are available.
