OMNOVA plans move to Beachwood
FAIRLAWN — OMNOVA Solutions officials announced Sept. 17 that the global specialty chemicals and functional surfaces company intends to move from its current Fairlawn headquarters late next year after building its new global headquarters in Beachwood.
“With the assistance of outside experts, we have gone through an extensive, nearly two-year process to evaluate possible sites for our new global headquarters,” said Kevin McMullen, OMNOVA Solutions chairman and chief executive officer. “It was important to us to stay in Northeast Ohio. We strongly believe in the region’s talented people and vast resources, which will be catalysts for the growth of our company. The Beachwood site is in a vibrant, expanding corporate setting where we can meet our criteria around retention, growth and cost and, at the same time, enhance the value we bring to our customers. We believe it is the perfect spot to build our future.”
The new headquarters will be located on Harvard Road just west of Richmond Road in the 630-acre Chagrin Highlands corporate community. OMNOVA will acquire 8.5 acres to build an approximately 57,000-square-foot building, including land for future expansion, and the company expects to break ground this fall and continue construction throughout the winter.
The Beachwood City Council and Warrensville Heights School Board approved the project at separate meetings Sept. 16, thus allowing OMNOVA to move forward on its construction plans, officials said.
In addition to the new headquarters in Beachwood, OMNOVA will maintain its ties to the Akron area. Officials said the company recently invested nearly $9 million to refurbish its Global Technology Center in Akron and add advanced capabilities and systems at its plants in Akron and Mogadore.
Assuming stable economic and market conditions, company officials said they expect growth over the next five years could result in workforce increases in Northeast Ohio, including about 70 new positions at the Beachwood headquarters.
OMNOVA’s Northeast Ohio roots date back to 1915 and former parent General Tire and Rubber, which later became GenCorp. OMNOVA Solutions was formed in 1999 when it was spun off from GenCorp as an independent, publicly traded company.
Burntwood Tavern newest downtown Falls restaurant
CUYAHOGA FALLS — In addition to the removal of two dams in downtown Cuyahoga Falls, a new construction project has been under way at the former LeFever’s Restaurant on Riverfront Parkway.
Under new ownership, the Powerhouse at Water’s Edge is now home to Burntwood Tavern, which opened Sept. 16. This marks the fifth Burntwood Tavern location in Northeast Ohio, with the first restaurant opening in September 2010 in Chagrin Falls.
“We’re thrilled about the location and the opportunity to integrate the Burntwood family into the Cuyahoga Falls community,” said Regional Managing Partner Ian Hopkins.
According to city officials, Burntwood Tavern is a chef-driven, guest-focused restaurant that offers a warm and inviting atmosphere with a copper-top bar, barnwood beams, handcrafted glass light fixtures and an indoor fireplace. The menu offers steaks, sliders and hand-cut fries and smoked, planked and wood-grilled food.
Lunch and dinner is served Sundays through Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Fridays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Burntwood Tavern is located at 2291 Riverfront Parkway. For more information, visit www.burntwoodtavern.com.
