The shop, located at 810 E. Turkeyfoot Lake Road, just east of South Arlington Road, is a barbershop and also houses Chix Styling Salon.
Owner Phil Ridgeway said there are four professionals offering services for men, women and children at the sports-themed shop. The shop’s sports paraphernalia, which include a Wheaties box collection, bleachers and a variety of pennants, serve as a conversation piece for customers while they get their hair cut, he added.
Ridgeway, who also has played saxophone and stand-up bass in the band Phil ’n the Blanks since 1974, said he has been cutting hair for 22 years and is a master barber. He said he specializes in fades, flat tops and spikes, but also cuts long styles.
Hot lather and neck shaves for adult clients are free with haircuts, and discounts are offered for retirees and children. The shop also offers “first hair cut” services for very young children, and that experience comes with a certificate and a balloon animal.
Ridgeway said there are two other master barbers at the shop.
Cathy Collier is a master barber but also a cosmetologist. Collier cuts hair for both men and women.
Lisa Alfman is also a master barber and cuts hair for men. Previously, she worked at the Goodyear Barbershop, like her father before her, until it closed about one year ago, when Goodyear moved to new headquarters.
Chix Styling Salon is run by Mary Hippich, a licensed cosmetologist who offers salon services in a separate room located inside the same building. Collier specializes in hair straightening and also does cuts, coloring and perms.
“Together, we have a lot of experience,” said Ridgeway. “We make our customers look good by helping them select styles that make them look their best.”
