FAIRLAWN — MJO Jewelers, located at 2820 W. Market St., Suite 230, serves the public and is a supplier to other jewelry stores.

Owned by Meir Ohayon, the business opened in May 2013. Ohayon said he has 20 years of experience in the jewelry business, including working as a diamond and jewelry wholesaler and years ago as a diamond cutter overseas. He said he has a lot of knowledge about diamonds and uses it to educate his customers about their purchases.

“I like to meet with customers to talk to them about diamonds, such as cut, color and clarity,” he said. “I want them to understand what they are getting and to know they are buying diamonds certified by well-known laboratories such as GIA.”

At his new business, he offers finished diamonds and gemstones to customers and retailers and creates customized jewelry such as diamond tennis bracelets, diamond necklaces, earrings and wedding rings for customers.

“I can offer top-of-the-line diamonds at a very good price to both individuals and store owners,” he added.

Ohayon said the difference between his business and a retail shop is that customers are cutting out the middleman at his business and thus saving money on the purchase of their diamonds and gemstones.

“I can get both customers and retailers a better deal,” he said. “I also offer one-stop shopping, where customers can get custom-designed jewelry that fits their style, not just something out of a showcase.”

Ohayon said the design process begins with the purchase of a diamond or gemstone, and then he sits down with customers to find what fits their personal style to handcraft one-of-a-kind pieces.

“We are not a cookie-cutter jewelry store,” he said. “We can get things out of a catalog, but we can also create something unique.”

Ohayon said he can also use diamonds taken from heirloom jewelry and design updated looks for them.

In addition, a master goldsmith can make repairs to jewelry in need of work, and appraisals are available at MJO Jewelers.

Ohayon recommends customers make an appointment for the one-on-one attention needed to discuss the purchase of diamonds and/or gemstones and the creation of personalized jewelry.

Customers also may visit the store beforehand. Business hours are Mondays through Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays by appointment.

A website at www.mjojewelers.com is under construction.
