COVENTRY — The three-and-a-half-year-old Portage Lakes Brewing Co. carries a large selection of high-end craft beers as well as wine at its store, located at 503 Portage Lakes Drive, according to co-owner Jason Keel.

Keel owns the store with Tony Pierce, and both also own Gionino’s Pizzeria in Green.

“We are a cool little laid-back kind of place where you can try different kinds of hard-to-find beers,” said Keel. “This is a great place to come to if you are trying to find a specialty beer.”

The store has more than 800 different beers and microbrews, according to Keel. It carries seasonal beers that are difficult to get, such as the Christmas ales and the summer brews, as well as others.

“We have the widest selection in Summit County, and we carry beers you won’t find anywhere else,” said Keel.

In addition, Portage Lakes Brewing Co. plans to add more than 20 craft beers on tap, many of which will be exclusive to the store, according to Keel. He also said other remodeling includes closing its drive-through service to create space for a beer tasting and patio area.

“We offer our customers a chance to try it before you buy it,” he said. “Customers can buy a 12-ounce glass of a particular beer to taste before buying it, as well as four 6-ounce glasses of beer.

In addition, Keel said the store plans to host beer tasting events this summer.

Portage Lakes Brewing Co. also carries 50 each of red and white wines, as well as hard ciders that are also available for tastings.

The store also has 20 different premium cigars stored in a humidor that customers can try before making a purchase. Keel said he hopes to host some cigar tasting events when the weather improves.

The store does not carry or serve domestic beers or liquor, and it sells some snack items and cigarettes.

Keel said he accepts requests to carry a line of beer or wine and also will special order brands for customers.

The business delivers orders for a $10 fee, with no minimum order required.

The business is open Mondays through Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
